The focus of the project was to design Ashworth's first golf shoe line. Ashworth is a coastal brand that wanted to maintain its so-cal lifestyle. The footwear silhouettes would express this culture. Ashworth design language emphasizes the leisure aspect of golf. However, performance is just as important and was incorportated in to the outsole and sections of the uppers. The technology in the one piece rubber cleat-outsole is very unique. The cleat design came from my experience with designed highly technical snowboard boots. The cleated mid-foot area is a result of Adidas engineering. These components combined, created an outsole that proved to be very competitive at the pro level for both Ashworth and Adidas. The creation of the MMM headphone would initiate a new business strategy Skullcandy by selling its first ground up and highly designed product for the first time. Vapor Studio and I collaborated with DJ Legend and Mix Master Mike. I was the lead and sole designer on the headphone. In terms of design language, its space minimizing yolk and headband design was the first of its kind and set an ergonomic trend seen in most headphones today. Once launched, Neo went from zero to a $500 million brand virtually overnight. I was the sole designer for the footwear projects assigned to Vapor Studio. It was a great opportunity for me to work directly with the adidas designers as well as all the NEO label directors. Due to the speed of this project, hand sketching needed to be tight and design intent needed to be as accurate as possible. PEPSI marketing asked me to design a lowrider bicycle. Coincidentally, I was living in San Diego where many traditional lowrider bike builders were located. Pepsi wanted my take on a lowrider bike. This bike was on PEPSI's 16 city tour for Dub magazine. It is a very prestigous invitation in the car industry and three out of 3000 are invited. I was the first industrial designer invited to the car build. The build for me was very brand centric and user oriented, as opposed to purely flash we often see in car builds. I chose to represent the Scion brand based on the XB's targeted demographic. My goal was to create a vehicle that served an older car modifier who still shows and drives his car but also has a family. This person wants to pass this down to his children and views the car culture as part of his family's heritage. Because XB was created to be a small family vehicle for young professionals I believe this approach was the best decision. The car was used in Scion's marketing collateral nationally. The car was not only showed in SEMA Las Vegas but was also showed at all the major car show in America, including NYC, LA, and Detroit. The car was recently brought out again by SCION and featured the XB-12 in web collateral. A unique aspect of the BGC is that developers must commission an artist whenever a new building is erected. As a result many national artist or asked to create public art. Initially, the bus stops were to be commissioned to a handful of artist. They were to create functional sculptures at every stop. However, it became very clear all proposals would require engineering to be functional and safe, all of which posed impossible budget and time constraints. The BGC art commission as well as our Ayala property approached me to propose a solution for the new city. I eventually won the bid. This project was one of my greatest accomplishments in my career. It became apparent that local manufacturing lacked experience and knowledge required to fabricate these curves. Most manufacturers gave up. The over arching theme was that "no one in the Philippines can make such a complex piece." I was not willing to give up. These patterns could then be printed onto paper. Next, we cut the paper and built a paper model of the 3-D file. We started there and first built scale models of the complex curve.
